- EAGLES: Won 49-24
(Jan. 16, 2012) - The Freedom High School wrestling team capped off a banner week by winning the Brookfield Freedom Duals on Saturday. In a week in which the Eagles secured at least a share of its third consecutive regular season district championship, the team took to the mat on Saturday in defense of its own tournament championship.
A year ago the Eagles defeated Millbrook in the finals in dramatic fashion, by winning the match in the final bout. Though this year did not provide quite as much drama, the result was the same, as the Eagles marched through the competition.
The Eagles began the day in pool competition as they defeated Handley 65-6, Park View 69-6, and Edison 66-15, before moving on to the semifinals against Orange County. In the semifinal match, the Eagles climbed out to an early 48-9 lead before hanging on to win the contest 48-20. In the finals the Eagles were able to scrap out a 49-24 victory behind an early lead thanks to Brendan Kammerdeiner, Chris Freda, DaQuante Timbers, and Anthony Chau.
Going 5-0 for the Eagles on the weekend were Matt Allison, Cody Hamm, Brendan Kammerdeiner, Chris Freda, and DaQuante Timbers.
Timbers was also recognized for being the first person in school history, and one of very few wrestlers state wide to ever achieve 100 pins in a career.
